My name is Seán Coleman and I am a graphics professional located in Montgomery County, Maryland. I am currently celebrating my fourteenth year as a creative professional. My career to date has afforded me many experiences in a variety of creative endeavors, including marketing, advertising, desktop publishing, digital imaging, large format printing, sign design, digital photography, photo restoration, retouching and compositing, video editing and web design. I consider myself to be a well rounded designer able to take on a wide range of project challenges.
I first embarked on my career journey in the Autumn of 1998 when I decided to leave the field of Psychology and enter the arena of Graphic Design. It was at this time that I enrolled in Advertising Design courses at Montgomery College. Prior to this time I worked in many areas other than Psychology, including business management, but it was through my work in Psychology that I became more aware of my admiration and talent in the world of art. During that time I realized what a powerful tool art and design can be to communicate ideas and feelings.
I began my professional career in graphics in a sign shop in Washington D.C. in early 2000. There, I mastered large format printing and other essential skills related to sign production. Later, in West Virginia, I continued using these techniques - designing graphics for signage and printing in large format. From 2001 to 2003 I worked as a digital imaging specialist for a portrait studio and photo lab in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. During this time I was able to experience, first-hand, a medium I had been fascinated with for many years, photography. My work at the studio allowed me to further my skills in the digital realm. Adobe Photoshop, the industry standard software application for digital imaging, became part of my daily life.
I returned to Maryland in 2003. After a few months of searching for the right position I found it with American Marketing Services, Inc. (AMS), publisher of The Merchandiser Magazine, a powerful direct mail advertising resource in the Washington, D. C. Metropolitan area. My nearly nine years of service to AMS gave me valuable experiences in advertising design, desktop publishing, web publishing and video editing.
I am currently working for Sugarloaf Mountain Works, Inc. as a graphic designer, assisting with the design of marketing and promotional materials. Sugarloaf Craft Festivals are rated among the top craft experiences in the country and I am proud to be part of their team! Additionally, I work closely with National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) providing a variety of graphic design and publishing services including the creation of promotional pieces, various publications, web graphics and more. Another great organization I regularly offer services to is Montgomery Partners for Animal Well-being (MCPAW).
As a local bonsai enthusiast, I am proud to serve on the board of the Brookside Bonsai Society and its parent organization the Potomac Bonsai Association (PBA). I also serve as PBA's web designer, social media administrator, editor and publisher of the PBA quarterly newsletter Clippings.
I am a ten year member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and have been involving myself heavily in Photo Restoration projects, which includes offering a paid service to local customers as well as volunteering my time to Operation Photo Rescue.
